GREAT
HARBOUR CAY
An
Idyllic Resort Island Setting
The Berry Islands consist of 30 islands
and almost 100 cays, many of which are untouched little tropical
jewels that are known only by local fishermen, adventurous
sailors and yachtsmen.
Great Harbour Cay, by air, is less than an hour from
the southeast Florida cities of West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale
and Miami. Yet it offers an atmosphere of unspoiled tropical
beauty and a rare tranquility that is seemingly far-removed
from the pace of modern life and the overdeveloped, more
urban islands of the Bahamas.
The terrain on Great Harbour Cay is surprisingly varied,
with elevations to 60-70 feet, providing dramatic vistas
of the island and the vibrant, ever changing hues of the
translucent blue ocean that surrounds it. Over 7 miles long,
the crescent shaped powder sand beach on its tranquil eastern
coast is one of the finest anywhere. The western shoreline
is made up of rocky bluffs overlooking miles of glass-like
bonefish flats. To the north is Sugar Beach, where cliffs
of limestone dotted with caves rise above secluded coves
and bays. To the south is Haines Cay, separated from Great
Harbour Cay by a narrow creek, where sand dollars drift
with the tide across broad white sand flats.
BULLOCK'S HARBOUR
The
settlement village of Bullocks Harbour is home to more
than 700 Bahamians who were born and raised here. This island
is their home. Government services on the island include
electric power, a school, clinic, police, and postal service.
It is the Bullocks Harbour labour resource which has
made the tourist industry possible. These gracious Bahamians
provide support to two nearby private cruise line islands
at Little Stirrup Cay and Great Stirrup Cay.
Royal Caribbean Cruise lines "Coco Cay" and Norwegian
Caribbean Cruise Lines "Bahama Beach" have been
one of the most memorable experiences for thousands of passengers
every year.
The extensive existing infrastructure on Great Harbour Cay,
together with a willing Bahamian labour force in residence
nearby, makes Great Harbour Cay a unique development
opportunity.
